The Vampires

There are three ‘types’ of Vampire, or rather, three states of the ‘curse of undeath.’  Vampires of all forms gain strength from the depth of their confidence, the strength of their minds, and ultimately the power of their will – and the older a vampire gets, the stronger their mind becomes.  An insane Vampire is one of the most dangerous creatures in the world, because their belief in their insanity can shape the world around them.

Nosferatu, Vampire, Lords and Ladies of the Night

The classical Vampire is somewhat traditional.   Vampires subsist mainly on blood, they can be killed by Daylight, Decapitation, Burning, or True Faith.   The source of faith doesn’t matter, so long as it is pure.  A steak through the heart will not kill them, but will put them into a torpor from which they cannot be awakened until it is removed.

Myths about vampires that have been spread through cultural propaganda include repulsion to Garlic, holy objects (such as crucifixes or crosses), holy water, an aversion to crossing running water, the need to sleep in a coffin, or in their native soil, and the inability to be awake during daylight hours.

They can also eat mortal food (and do a little, to help shift muscle mass) and their fangs retract when they aren’t using them.

Feral Vampires, Ferals, The Beasts

Ferals are vampires which, upon being turned, were unable to stave off the call of the blood and surrendered their minds and souls to the beast.  They are not insane, insomuch as they are Rabid.  They lust for blood and to kill, and little else beyond that.  On rare occasion, a Feral will carry a small shred of who they were, and something of what they were will drive their basest motivations (like revenge).

They are weak only to Daylight, Fire, and Decapitation, making them, in some ways, less vulnerable than the Nosferatu.  They cannot eat normal food, subsisting only on blood.  They do not have willpower, and do not engage in mental combat (ever tried to punch fog?)  One of the scariest thing about a Feral is that at just a week or two old, they have the strength and speed of a Nosferatu a century old.

The Unblooded

The unblooded are by far the rarest of the three types of Vampire for two reasons.  Firstly, very few of the Nosferatu will allow an unblooded to survive.  They fear them for their lack of traditional weakness, and force newly undead to drink immediately after they are turned.   The legend of the unblooded is that in the days of the first vampires, two brothers were born, one blooded, one unblooded.  The unblooded brother, seeing what the blooded were turning into, wiped out multiple generations of the blooded in a single slaughter…  Not a lot of this legend remains intact.  The second reason that unblooded are so rare is that the call of the blood (the hunger) is very powerful, and most vampires only learn to resist it with at least several decades of maturity strengthening their minds.  An unblooded has a focus in their mind similar to that of a truly elder Vampire, though not the experience to use it well.
